What is the Mentoring Programme for?
- Support and encouragement as you navigate choices about education, training, work, or life after school
- Practical help with employability: CV writing, interview prep, job search, apprenticeships, or training routes
- Personal development: confidence building, goal setting, time management, self-awareness, resilience
- Space to talk and be heard: a friendly, trusted mentor to provide guidance, advice, or just a listening ear
- Focused support: 4-6 structured mentoring sessions over 6–8 weeks to help you set and achieve meaningful goals
Who can join the WEST Mentoring Programme?
- Young people aged 14–19 (up to 25 with additional needs)
- Suitable for school leavers, young adults, or anyone thinking about their next steps
- Both existing WEST members and new sign-ups are welcome
- We encourage diverse backgrounds, talents, and needs; everyone is welcome. If you have additional support needs or require adjustments, just let us know and we’ll work with you to make it happen.
How does mentoring work?
- You get to choose your own mentoring matches from our list of trained mentors, so you can find someone who fits your goals and style.
- Each mentor can support up to 2 young people at a time, 4-6 sessions for a focused 6–8 week journey.
- Sessions are structured to make real progress over the mentoring period.
- Activities could include CV & interview workshops, confidence-building sessions, goal setting, career advice, university applications, financial literacy support and check-ins.
- All mentoring is delivered by friendly, trained mentors who are committed to supporting your growth and ambitions.
How do I join the Mentoring Programme?
- Register for the Mentoring Programme using the booking link on our website or by talking to Solomon.
- After registration, we’ll have a brief chat with you to understand your goals and ensure you’re ready to make the most of your mentoring journey. This helps us match you with the right mentor and ensures you’re committed to the programme.
- Once your match is confirmed, your mentoring programme begins.
Is the WEST Mentoring Programme free?
Yes, as part of your WEST Youth Zone membership, the Mentoring Programme is included at no extra cost. We believe everyone should have access to support, so this service is offered to all our members.

How long is each mentoring session?
Each session typically lasts anywhere up to 60 minutes, giving enough time to discuss your goals, progress, and any challenges.
What happens if I can’t make a session?
If you can’t attend a session, please let your mentor, Solomon or Youth Work Manager know at least 24 hours in advance. This allows us to reschedule the session within the programme timeframe. If it’s an emergency, let us know as soon as possible.
Can I choose a mentor with a specific skill or experience?
Yes! You’ll have access to our list of trained mentors and can select someone whose skills or experience best match your goals.
What support is available if I have additional needs?
We welcome all young people. If you have additional needs or require adjustments to participate fully, let us know and we’ll work with you to make it happen.
