Cook & Kitchen Supervisor

Job Title Cook & Kitchen Supervisor

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, five days out of seven. We're open to four days per week for the right applicant to support flexible working.

Salary: £28,000 per annum

Location: Hammersmith & Fulham Youth Zone. Once the Youth Zone is open your place of work will be there. In the months prior to the Youth Zone opening (which is estimated to be at the end of 2023) you will be contracted to work in an office opposite the Youth Zone’s site in Scale Space, White City.

The Cook & Kitchen Supervisor will establish a café within the new WEST Youth Zone facility and take the lead on running all aspects of an inspiring, healthy and cost-effective catering provision including line managing Catering Assistants. The café is an essential part of our offer for young people (aged 8- 19 years, up to 25 for those with additional needs) and the canteen area must be a warm and welcoming place for all.

The role encompasses creating, preparing and cooking inspiring, innovative and appealing dishes that are low cost, and the post holder must be passionate about local produce, minimising food waste, have a “can do” attitude and relate well to young people.

Salary: £34,000 - £36,000 dependent on experience (Full Time Equivalent)​

Location: WEST Youth Zone

The role of Grant & Trust Officer will play a pivotal role in WEST Youth Zone’s Fundraising Team, developing our grant fundraising capabilities and growing this income stream. ​​

The role’s primary purpose is to generate unrestricted income, together with delivering funding for targeted projects (such as employability programmes, mentoring programmes, or mental health initiatives). ​​

WEST Youth Zone has developed a targeted funds infrastructure with live impact data established and ready to utilise in funding proposals. It costs £1.6 million a year to run WEST Youth Zone, 90% of which is generated through voluntary donations. 

You will therefore play a vital role in keeping the charity financially sustainable through the development of trusts & grants fundraising. You will be given ample scope to test your creative ideas and drive forward income generation, supported by the Head of Fundraising & Communications, the Chief Executive and a forward thinking and engaged Board of Trustees.

The sports offer at WEST Youth Zone is wide ranging and as a member of the Sports Team, you will be key in ensuring young people have access to an exciting and engaging Boxing program that will be challenging, stimulating, fun, engaging and developmental. You will be involved in teaching the fundamentals of the sport to young people, as well as facilitating taster sessions, competitions and challenges which build young people’s engagement, skills, and fitness levels. You will coach and develop teams and support volunteerswithin the Sports Team. Ideally, you will have experience of coaching young people, and a relevant qualification in Boxing (Level 2).

As a crucial member of the team, you will contribute to ensuring that a great first impression is always given to young people, parents and visitors and that all areas of the Youth Zone are safe and clean. Open 7 days a week including school holidays, WEST Youth Zone’s purpose is to help young people grow to be happy, healthy and successful adults. The state-of-the-art building provides young people with a range of activities, giving young people the opportunity to try new things, meet new friends and gain support from friendly, warm and positive staff and volunteers. Facilities include a kick pitch, climbing wall, gym, sports hall and recreation area, and dance, arts, music and media suites.

We are looking for youth workers to work alongside our Inclusion Coordinator to support ourmembers with additional needs, bothon our universal sessions and our specific Inclusion sessions. The role is 100% face to face delivery with young people during evenings and weekends. The role of the Inclusion Youth Workers isto help deliver an accessible and inclusive offer to young people. During universal sessions, the Inclusion Youth Workers will help young people with additional needs to access different activities that the youth zone offers. For example, football in the Sports Hall and cooking in the Training Kitchen. Our Inclusion sessions, which run on a Sunday, will be for young people with additional needs only, Inclusion Youth Workers will help plan and deliver these sessions.

The post holder will be part of a welcoming and professional team who are also positive about young people and will ensure the Youth Zone will function to its maximum potential. Catering Assistant

Job Title Catering Assistant

Hours: Part-time: 8-24 hrs per week according to availability, evenings and weekends

Salary: £13.15 per hour (London living wage)

Location: WEST Youth Zone

WEST Youth Zone offers both a nutritious hot meal and a tuck shop service on every session that we run. Whilst the Kitchen Supervisor cooks the food, the Catering Assistants serve the food and are integral to the successful operation of catering for the young people. You will be responsible for food hygiene, using the EPOS machine to sell items and manage stock, serving food, interacting with young people, washing up and keeping the kitchen clean, doing statutory paperwork and cashing up. Depending on the rota and your own cooking abilities, there may also be opportunities for you to teach cooking to young people directly in our training kitchen.
